
SketchUp for Architects – Process-Oriented Course
This course is aimed at you as an architect who wants to work more efficiently and creatively in SketchUp. The structure is workshop-based and you get to work directly with your own projects in parallel with practical exercises based on ready-made SketchUp templates. The focus is on quickly putting theory into practice - the goal is that you will immediately see results in your models and be able to apply the knowledge in your everyday life.
Course content
Part 1 – Basics and 2D–3D Templates
• Install and work with a ready-made simple 2D–3D template.
• Customize the template settings (scenes, styles, camera) to suit your business.
• Practical workflow: draw in the right order and learn to manage objects efficiently.
• Groups and components – when and how to use them.
• Tags and scenes for structure and control.
• Scale & Tape tool, copying and splitting objects.
• Import of DWG, PDF and JPEG (e.g. floor plans) and correct scaling.
• Import and management of objects from 3D Warehouse.
Part 2 – Geolocation and building analysis
• Geotag the SketchUp file for accurate geographic location.
• Shadow analysis of houses at selected geo-position.
• Correct placement of imported files in the model.
• Advanced tag and tag album management for more complex projects.
• Create your own 3D objects from scratch.
Part 3 – Building permit drawings and LayOut
• Included: fully developed building permit template for SketchUp & LayOut.
• Export correctly from model to LayOut.
• Predefined scenes for building permits: facades (north, south, east, west), top view, situation plan and perspective.
• Scale bars included for all views.
• Draw further based on floor plans, pictures and contour lines.
Part 4 – Presentation and Design Tools
• Photograph buildings properly to use as a background.
• Camera settings and camera placement for best presentation.
• Handling of styles, shadows and fog for the right feel.
• Importing and using textures and reviewing different materials.
• Preparation for printing and exporting models and presentations.
• Tips on selected plugins that make work easier.

The course is based on a process-oriented learning where you learn step by step how to handle SketchUp's most important tools and templates. The focus is on achieving fast results through practical exercises, so you can go from idea to finished model with greater confidence and efficiency.
